Setting up a teleprompter for MacBook Air

1. Open the autocue teleprompter in Safari or Chrome.
2. Paste your script and raise the font size until you can read it from where you sit.
3. Raise the MacBook on books so the camera reaches eye level.
4. Keep the scrolling line in the top third, just under the camera.

The MacBook Air’s camera sits at the top edge of the display, which is the best possible place for prompting: the text you read is inches from the lens.

Why the Air suits prompting better than it suits filming

The built-in camera is adequate rather than good, but as a prompter the Air is excellent — silent, fanless, light enough to reposition with one hand, and with battery life that outlasts any session.

If you want better image quality, prompt on the MacBook Air and film on a separate camera placed just above the screen.

Reading naturally on a laptop screen

Set the scroll slightly slower than your comfortable reading speed. Text that moves a touch too slowly makes you speak naturally; text that races makes your eyes track visibly.

Sit a little further back than feels natural. Distance narrows the angle between your pupils and the lens, and the read stops looking like a read.
