The specs to check before buying
Confirm the flip screen fully articulates rather than tilting up only — a tilt screen is blocked the moment you mount a microphone. Check for a 3.5mm input, because on-body mics on compact cameras are the weakest link.
Look up the real continuous recording limit rather than the headline figure. Many compacts stop well before the battery does.
